Ringside Pub in Caldwell is a cool place. O'Neils in North Arlington comes to mind as well.
Or go to the city. Jersey bars are great if you just want to get wasted, want to go dancing, or want to see some decent cover bands. Socially though, its hard to find good ones. They exist, but are far less common.
The city has tons of great bars for socializing if its a convenient option for you. Pub Crawls in the city are an EXCELLENT way to meet girls/guys. They draw tons of people, 90% of which are looking to meet people.
www.lindypromo.com is a good website, they organize tons of great pub crawls.
Or, if you don't feel like doing that, just hit up some bars. I could probably rattle of a list of 10-20 bars in Manhattan that are good for meeting people at. Its a different scene at most of the bars there that I have yet to find the equivelent of in Jersey. True, its a bit of a hassle to get home usually (PATH trains run slow as hell at night), but if you are having a good time, getting home at sunrise shouldn't be an issue.
